IAVE is an international volunteer organization are unique since it is run entirely by volunteers and for volunteers with a secretariat that usually changes location and country with the change in President. It was started by a group of women in the USA , in the living room of Mary Ripley, with the intention of breaking barriers and building bridges. The IAVE seeks to enhance the spirit of Volunteering amongst all sections of society such as the corporate organizations, academia, voluntary sector, professionals, entrepreneurs and individuals. IAVE organizes itself around Biannual World Conferences and biannual Regional Conferences where the members and others from the Volunteering community meet and are able to share and celebrate the joys and challenges of Volunteering. IAVE has been able to develop a very strong volunteer networks in counties like Japan , Australia and Korea , Phillipenes in the Asia Pacific Region. IAVE worked very closely with the UNV internationally to initiate, promote and celebrate the International Year of the Volunteer 2001. The first occasion of the year was the IAVE World Volunteer Conference in Amsterdam . This was followed by one in Seoul and then in Barcelona and now IAVE looks to involve you in New Delhi this year 2006. |

Our acronym PIDT means “oppressed” in most languages of northern India . It is one of the premier Voluntary Organisations in India , which works for holistic development of communities in 500 villages of 5 states of India . PIDT motivates people to volunteer to change their own futures and so works with thousands of Volunteers.
PIDT started it's intervention in 9 states from 1976, in remote areas, under very difficult circumstances. PIDT strategises to withdraw from places where it feels sustainable transformation has been set in motion. PIDT works with children, youth and women on a variety of areas ranging from women's empowerment, education, health, sustainable agriculture, watershed development, rural habitat, herbal medicine, livlihood generation to crafts development and human rights.

PIDT is also an advocacy group for promoting equity and justice based policies focusing on pro-poor, pro-green and pro-women approaches. PIDT ‘s founder, and chair Prof. Subhachari Dasgupta has been on the Board of IAVE and initiated it's India chapter in 1996 to celebrate the spirit of Volunteering.
Since then PIDT has held several National level Iave meetings as well as a large and high profile IAVE Asia Pacific conference with Team IYV, UNV in the UN International Year of the Volunteers 2001 on “Volunteering for Humanism in the New Millennium. PIDT is also part of several national and international networks and has hosted 5 international Conferences on “Peace, Plurality and Equality – Social Responsibility of the Youth”. PIDT serves to interface between the action and advice PIDT will continue in it's endeavor to draw more and more members across different sectors of society into Volunteering for the marginalized through networking, training, capacity building, education, advocacy and collaborative action. |

The IAVE India , started in 2001 has grown slowly but steadily in it's reach across the country based entirely on membership. Initiated in 1996, consolidated in 2001, IAVE India seeks to involve with developing bridges of understanding amongst various sections of the Indian society and also South Asia . Through it's website it seeks to educate , communicate and involve with those who wish to volunteer in this region. It has collaborated with PIDT in organizing various International Conferences in the Region and has initiated a forum called “Youth for Peace Plurality and Equality”. IAVE India celebrates the UN International Volunteer day (IVD). It is finding means and mechanisms to increase the Volunteer content of society where it is becoming self centred and materialistic at an accelerating pace.

UNV is administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and works through UNDP's country offices worldwide to place and support UN Volunteers. Based in Bonn, Germany, the UN Volunteers programme is the volunteer arm of the United Nations. Created by the UN General Assembly in 1970, the UN Volunteers programme mobilizes volunteers and promotes the ideals of volunteerism around the world. The UN Volunteers programme also manages the WorldVolunteerWeb portal, a global knowledge hub on volunteering and an effective platform for campaigning, advocacy, information dissemination and networking. By promoting volunteerism and mobilizing volunteers UNV actively supports efforts on the part of national governments and the international community to achieve the Millennium Development Goals .
